Clovis Councilman Bob Whalen to Announce Candidacy for California Legislature
Wednesday, November 18, 2009
Clovis Councilman and Deputy District Attorney Bob Whalen will announce his candidacy for the State Legislature Wednesday at an 11:00 AM news conference at Clovis’s Liberty Park. The park is located on 5th Street in Clovis between the Veteran’s Memorial Building and the San Joaquin College of Law.
Whalen is a longtime leader in the San Joaquin Valley’s Republican Party, and he is a recognized taxpayer advocate who has led the fight against higher taxes and wasteful spending.
A fourth-generation Clovis resident, Bob Whalen was first elected to the City Council in March 2003, and, in 2009, completed his service as Clovis Mayor under the rotating mayor system. He has earned a reputation as a “tough on crime” advocate and “friend of the taxpayer” who has been a champion for small business growth. In March 2009, Bob Whalen was the lone councilman who advocated the defeat of Measure A, which would have raised local taxes.
