Major Valley Law Enforcement Leader Announces Support for Assembly Candidate Bob Whalen

Tuesday, August 04, 2009

(Clovis) – Today, Father of the Three Strikes Law Mike Reynolds announced his support for Clovis City Councilmember and Fresno County Deputy District Attorney Bob Whalen for the 29th Assembly District. Reynolds joins a growing list of supporters for Whalen’s Assembly run.

“As a Deputy District Attorney, Bob Whalen has worked to put serious felons behind bars,” said Mike Reynolds. “Bob Whalen has spent his entire career on the right side of law enforcement. He understands the need for tough sentencing laws that put hardened criminals away for life. I am confident that Bob Whalen will defend the 3-strikes law and work to further strengthen sentencing laws that keep repeat felons out of our neighborhoods. I am proud to support him.”

Mike Reynolds was the inspiration and co-author of 1994’s three strikes law. Motivated by his daughter’s murder, he worked tirelessly to ensure that criminals received a punishment that fit the crime. By 1998, California’s crime rate dropped 37% due to this bill.

Reynolds’ support comes on the heels of the endorsement announcement by popular Fresno Supervisor Judy Case, who is also an early supporter of Whalen for Supervisor.

Clovis City Councilman and Fresno County Deputy District Attorney Bob Whalen has earned a reputation as a ‘tough on crime’ advocate and ‘friend of the taxpayer’ who has been a champion for small business growth. In March 2009, Bob Whalen was the lone councilman who advocated the defeat of Measure A, which would have raised local taxes.

As a Deputy District Attorney, Whalen has successfully prosecuted hundreds of criminals, including those who prey on our children.
