(Fresno, CA)—Today, at Courthouse Park, Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin and Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer joined forces to endorse Deputy District Attorney Bob Whalen for the open 29th Assembly District. Swearengin and Dyer are widely considered two of the most influential officials in the Fresno area.
“Bob Whalen is on the front lines of public safety, and he’s played a big part in keeping our streets safe,” said Chief Dyer. “I trust Bob Whalen to fight for stronger laws that keep hardened criminals behind bars. He will defend the three strikes and death penalty laws, and he will work against early release of criminals from state prisons.”
Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin offered similarly positive reviews for Whalen.
“Bob Whalen has my trust and support because his track record speaks plainly about his strong commitment to the San Joaquin Valley,” remarked Mayor Swearengin. “There’s no doubt that Bob Whalen will fight to balance this state budget without raising taxes and without stealing local tax revenues from cities and counties. Just as important, I know Bob Whalen will work hand-in-hand with me and others to improve our local economic conditions and help create jobs right here in our community. That’s why we need Bob in the Assembly, and I am proud to support him.”
Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin was elected in 2008 and has since been lauded for her stewardship of the city during these tough economic times.
Jerry Dyer was appointed Chief of Police in August 2001 and is widely considered a voice that the people of Fresno trust. With more than thirty years in the Fresno police force, he has been at the helm for six consecutive years of crime decreases. In addition, Chief Dyer is a past President of the California Police Chiefs’ Association.
Clovis City Councilman and Fresno County Deputy District Attorney Bob Whalen has earned a reputation as a “tough on crime” advocate and “friend of the taxpayer” who has been a champion for small business growth. Whalen is largely considered the frontrunner for the Republican nomination in the 29th Assembly Seat.
